About Your Therapist

Welcome to Empowerment Through Connection Therapy

Welcome! My name is Johanna (pronounced yo-ha-nah), and I'm the founder of Empowerment Through Connection Therapy. With a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health from Adams State University and a Master's degree in Sociology from Northeastern University, where I focused on feminist theory, queer theory, gender, and the environment, I bring a diverse and informed perspective to my practice.

Located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood near Trader Joe's, I offer both in-person and telehealth appointments to meet you where you are. I am a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and am on the path to becoming a certified sex therapist through the Sexual Health Alliance (SHA). I also founded the Denver Bi+ Women's Social Club and am passionate about supporting the bisexual community. As a bisexual individual myself, I offer a deep understanding of the unique challenges and joys of this identity. Whether you are just coming out, exploring your sexuality, dealing with biphobia, or navigating non-monogamy, I am here to support you on your journey towards greater authenticity and understanding.

My ideal clients are those who are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives, embrace personal growth, and challenge their preconceptions and behaviors. With a strong background in sociology and feminist theory, I can help you recognize and overcome social constructs or thought patterns that may be holding you back from living authentically.

Having been a stay-at-home mom, I bring unique insights and empathy to my practice, recognizing the invaluable skills and perspectives gained from this role. I love working with parents, whether focusing on parenting, co-parenting, or finding value in the caregiver role. In a society that often overlooks the work of caregivers, I aim to help clients make meaning of their parenting experiences and find intrinsic value in this role. Parenting offers a wonderful opportunity to re-parent oneself, reflect on familial impacts, and break intergenerational cycles of trauma.

I am also an outdoor enthusiast and runner, often finding peace and inspiration in nature. As a psychonaut, I am excited about the potential of therapeutic psychedelics. While I do not currently offer psychedelic therapy, I can assist with psychoeducation and integration or recommend resources.

My personal experience with ADHD and my ongoing certification in this area inform my practice. I especially enjoy working with clients who have ADHD, helping them see the positive aspects of their neurodiversity and manage it practically. I am also passionate about art and self-expression through various mediums, including music and visual arts.

Together, we can work to ensure you are living in alignment with the most authentic version of yourself. Gaining self-awareness can be transformative, impacting how we view ourselves and interact with others. Our work together will focus on aligning your actions with your values and goals, fostering a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships.
